We recommend having a look at the following videos:
As the SSP18 is a gas-powered pistol, you will need the right gas for your gun.
You can find the appropriate gas here on our website:
EU: https://eu.novritsch.com/product/airsoft-gas-nimrod-switch/
US: https://us.novritsch.com/product/airsoft-gas/
Recommended BBs for CO₂: 0.32g
If you want to use CO₂, please note that it should only be used at temperatures below 15 °C/ 59 °F.
Using it at higher temperatures will damage the pistol.
If you are having power issues, always first check if you are using the correct gas and BBs for the temperature you are using the pistol at. Please check if the chronograph you are using for measuring the power is set up correctly and has the appropriate BB weight set.
This usually only happens when the hopup is not adjusted properly. To do so, you can take off the slide and turn the hopup wheel underneath the barrel.
If you are still finding the gun to not be hopping properly, please first thoroughly clean the barrel assembly, or check if any parts of the hopup assembly are damaged or missing.
If your gas magazine is leaking after filling it, you first need to find out where it is leaking from. You can do this by filling the magazine with gas and submerging it underwater. The bubbles escaping the magazine will show where the leak is.
Leaking from fill valve or exhaust valve:
If the magazine is leaking from either one of the valves, you should first try tightening it, though not too hard, as the valve might break. If the leak continues, then the valve most likely needs to be exchanged.
Leaking from gap in baseplate:
If it is leaking from the gap between the body of the magazine and the baseplate, then the internal seal has most likely dried out. This can be prevented by always leaving a bit of gas inside the magazines during storage.
To stop the leak, the two bottom pins need to be punched out, so the baseplate of the magazine can be pulled out. The sealing gasket can then be taken off and left in a silicon oil bath for half a day or re-lubed with silicon grease, which will help regain its sealing properties.
If it is still leaking from the same spot afterwards, the gasket will likely need to be exchanged.
Leaking when filling:
If your SSP18 V2 magazine leaks while filling the magazine, there is no need to worry – This is completely normal.
These magazines are equipped with a two-stage fill valve, which helps to increase the amount of gas you can put into the magazine. This video explains the concept and how it works:
CO₂ magazine:
If your CO₂ magazine is leaking from the top, or all the CO₂ immediately flows out through the gas route on top of the magazine, then the valve needs to be tightened or exchanged, if tightening it does not help.
If your SSP18 has trouble cycling and feeding BBs, then the pistol is probably light-striking.
This can also lead to the slide locking up in the rear and getting stuck on the hammer, despite the slide catch not being pushed up.
Light-striking occurs when the pressure from the type of gas used is too weak to cycle the gun properly.
Causes for this can be too weak gas for a given temperature (e.g. green gas at 15 °C), too low temperatures (< 5 °C), or cooldown. Cooldown occurs if the magazine gets too cold from filling it often or shooting many shots from one magazine in quick succession.
Light-striking will also occur when the magazine is running out of gas, as it cannot produce enough pressure with the remaining gas.
If this happens despite using the correct gas, there might be an issue with the hammer unit in the receiver or the blowback unit in the slide. Please check if there is any visible damage on the nozzle, piston head or hammer unit. If you can find something, please reach out to us with pictures of the damaged parts.
If you find that your BBs are getting stuck in the magazine track and not being fed upwards properly, this is often caused by unclean or malformed BBs. It is recommended to try different brands of high-quality BBs and new/different bags.
If the problem persists, even with different brands and new bags of BBs, the BB track in the magazine might be dirty. This can be resolved by removing the magazine spring and cleaning the surfaces of the BB track.
If you have trouble removing the slide, please follow the “Disassembly” video to ensure that you are doing this correctly.
If the slide still cannot be taken off, it might be getting stuck on the hammer.
Please follow the video below, it shows how to take the slide off anyway in such cases:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/14zpqAfvcFY2Yr89EdWUtd2azMK5VeYzv/view
After removing the slide, please contact us with the form below and forward us pictures of the hammer unit from different angles, as it is likely damaged.
The rear sight screw of the SSP18 comes with screw glue applied to ensure that the rear sight does not come loose by itself.
When trying to loosen this screw, you may need to heat it first before trying to unscrew it, which is best done with a heat gun.
If the screw is already stripped and cannot be removed normally, you may need to drill it out or remove it by other means and exchange it.
The rear sight screw can be found here in the rear sight set:
EU: https://eu.novritsch.com/product/ssp18-rear-sight-and-screw/
US: https://us.novritsch.com/product/ssp18-rear-sight-and-screw/
If your SSP18 only fires a single shot with the fire selector in the full-auto position, and it is not an F-marked semi-only version, the rear sight screw might be tightened too much.
This causes the parts of the fire selector assembly to bind up and get stuck on semi-auto. Simply loosening the screw slightly until the auto-sear moves properly should resolve the issue.
Another cause for this can be the usage of CO₂ in higher temperatures, as the sears cannot reset correctly.
