As the SSP5 is a gas-powered pistol, you will need the right gas for your gun.
You can find the appropriate gas here on our website:
(EU): https://eu.novritsch.com/product/airsoft-gas-nimrod-switch/
(US): https://us.novritsch.com/product/airsoft-gas/
BB recommendations: 0.40g for long-range and 0.32g for CQB
If you want to use CO₂, please note that it should only be used at temperatures below 15 °C/ 59 °F. Using it at higher temperatures will damage the pistol.
If you are having power issues, always first ensure that you are using the correct gas and BBs for the temperature you are using the pistol at.
If the power is too high for the field you are playing at, consider using weaker gas (if possible) or lighter BBs.
This usually only happens when the hopup is not adjusted properly. To adjust it, take the included 2 mm allen key and turn the set screw on top of the slide, clockwise.
As a general reference, if the screw is flush with the slide, this should provide enough tension to keep the BBs from rolling out of the barrel.
If the gun still does not hop properly; please first thoroughly clean the barrel assembly, or check if any parts of the hopup assembly are damaged or missing.
This can occur if the baseplate of the magazine extends too far upwards, causing the magazine to not be seated correctly.
To resolve this, you can sand down the top of the baseplate, which allows it to sit higher up in the magazine well.
Some screws on the SSP5 are secured with screw glue, to keep them from coming loose during the usage of the gun. This can be troublesome if you want to disassemble the gun.
To get these screws out, they need to be heated, using a heat gun or a similar tool, which softens the screw glue. Afterward, the screw can be carefully unscrewed (counterclockwise).
Here are some screws and the correct Allen key size to use:
Hopup chamber top screw: 2 mm
TDC screw: 2 mm
Hopup chamber cover screws: 2 mm
Slide bottom piece screw: 1.5 mm
Front sight screw: 0.9 mm
If your gas magazine is leaking after filling it, you first need to find out where it is leaking from. You can do this by filling the magazine with gas and submerging it underwater. The bubbles escaping the magazine will show where the leak is.
Leaking from the fill valve or exhaust valve:
If the magazine is leaking from either one of the valves, you should first try tightening it, though not too hard, as the valve might break. If the leak continues, then the valve most likely needs to be exchanged.
Leaking from gap in baseplate:
If it is leaking from the gap between the body of the magazine and the baseplate, then the hex screw at the bottom of the baseplate simply needs to be tightened. This screw should also not be tightened too hard, to avoid breaking it.
Leaking when filling:
If you have an SSP1/5 V2 Magazine that leaks while filling the magazine – This is completely normal.
These magazines are equipped with a two-stage fill valve, which helps to increase the amount of gas you can put into the magazine. This video explains the concept and how it works:
CO₂ magazine:
If your CO₂ magazine is leaking from the top, or all the CO₂ immediately flows out through the gas route on top of the magazine, then the valve needs to be tightened or exchanged, if tightening it does not help.
If your SSP5 has trouble cycling, feeding BBs and even only cocks the hammer halfway sometimes, then the pistol is probably light-striking.
This happens when the pressure from the type of gas used is too weak to cycle the gun properly.
Causes for this can be too weak gas for a given temperature (e.g. green gas at 15 °C), too low temperatures (< 5 °C), or cooldown.
Cooldown occurs if the magazine gets too cold from filling it often or shooting many shots from one magazine in quick succession.
Light striking will also occur when the magazine is running out of gas, as it cannot produce enough pressure with the remaining gas.
If you cannot mount the red dot plate or the Micro Red Dot V3 itself properly, the issue might be with the outer barrel. If you can see it slightly extending into the cutout where the red dot plate goes, and it does not sit flush with the rest of the slide, the outer barrel is slightly misaligned.
To resolve this, you need to unscrew the TDC screw, Hopup Chamber screw and the two screws from the hopup chamber cover. This allows you to slightly pull the front slide forwards, until the outer barrel is flush. You can then mount the red dot plate and red dot, and screw the screws back in afterward.
If the BB’s get stuck in the magazine track and are not being fed upwards properly, this is usually caused by unclean or malformed BBs.
It is recommended to try different brands of high-quality BBs and new/different bags.
If the problem persists, even with different brands and new bags of BBs, the BB track in the magazine might be dirty. This can be resolved by removing the magazine spring and cleaning the surfaces of the BB track.
