TECHNICAL INFORMATION

The following videos will guide you through the disassembly and assembly process of the SSP28:

Upper Assembly

Lower Disassembly

Lower Assembly

You can find BB & Gas recommendations on the page below:
https://novritsch.com/ammo-chart/

Do not use CO₂ magazines above 15 °C/59 °F.

To avoid parts wearing down prematurely or breaking, we recommend not using CO₂ magazines at all, as gas magazines deliver more than enough power.

First, please note that using the SSP28 with HPA will void the warranty, as per our warranty page.
Please use HPA at your discretion.

We do offer HPA options for the SSP28 here in our store.

Reducing wear on internal parts and preventing leaks can only be done by regularly maintaining your gun and magazines.

We recommend cleaning and maintaining your gun as often as you can, though here are our suggestions on how often is necessary to maintain consistent performance and prevent air leaks:

Cleaning of the inner barrel and bucking:

Ideally, the inner barrel should be cleaned after every game or usage, especially when used in adverse environments, such as sandy/dusty/dirty environments, or when used in rain.
To prevent accuracy issues or power drop, we recommend cleaning it every 3,000 – 5,000 shots.

Generally, cleaning the inner barrel should be done more frequently the smaller the inner diameter is (tight-bore barrels) and the longer the barrel is.

Maintaining the magazines:

There are a few things you should do after every game:

  • Ensuring to leave a small amount of gas inside the magazine to keep the seals from drying out
  • Cleaning any dust, dirt and other debris out of your magazine to keep it from getting onto the BBs and into the gun
  • Checking that the magazine is not leaking anywhere – If it does, you will want to maintain it before storing it

Thorough magazine maintenance should be done every 3,000 – 4,000 shots to ensure that it does not start leaking, or if the magazine starts to leak before that.

You can find guides on magazine maintenance below:

Internal maintenance:

Maintaining the internal parts of the gun is recommended after 3,000 – 5,000 shots, though we recommend doing a light cleaning of the gun immediately if used in adverse conditions such as mud, sand, or dust: Everything that could prevent the gun from cycling properly.

Please ensure to follow our Academy videos closely when taking the gun apart for maintenance. Damage caused by forceful disassembly or incorrect assembly is not covered by the warranty.

What should I check when maintaining the internals?

  • Clean and re-lubricate the slide/bolt assembly
    • Wipe down any old grease or oil from the slide/bolt and re-lubricate with lithium grease or light silicone oil
    • Repeat for guiding rails and other points of friction between the slide/bolt and the frame of the gun
  • Inspect the nozzle and its return spring
    • Check for any wear and especially cracks on the nozzle, even tiny cracks can lead to a loss of power and gas efficiency
    • Clean the nozzle and blowback housing from any dirt or debris
    • Ensure that the recoil spring is not bent or overstretched
  • Check the blowback unit
    • If the piston cup is dry, check for any cracks and keep it lubricated with silicone oil
  • Verify trigger group functionality
    • Look for any wear on the sears, the hammer, and the valve knocker assembly
    • Clean off any dirt or grease and lubricate lightly with mechanics oil
    • Test for proper functionality of the trigger group, especially if the gun has full-auto capability
  • Inspect internal screws and pins
    • Make sure that all internal screws are not damaged and tightened properly
    • Check if any body pins or internal pins are backing out or otherwise damaged
  • Final function check and cleaning
    • Clean any other parts of the body that get dirty over time, like the inside of the magazine well, the recoil spring assembly and other parts inside the body
    • Do a final inspection and check if the gun cycles properly and shoots well

TROUBLESHOOTING

You should always first ensure that you are using the recommended weight of BBs and the correct gas for the temperature you are using the pistol at. We also recommend trying different hopup settings when measuring, as this affects the power output.

You should also check that the chronograph you are using for measuring the power is set up correctly and has the appropriate BB weight set.

Whenever you notice the power dropping, clean the inner barrel and hopup bucking, as there might be dirt or lubricant inside.

This usually only happens when the hopup is not adjusted properly. To adjust it, turn the hopup wheel which sits in front of the rear slide. You can find a video below about adjusting the hopup.

If the gun still does not hop properly; please first thoroughly clean the barrel assembly, or check if any parts of the hopup assembly are damaged or missing.

If your gas magazine is leaking after filling it, you first need to find out where it is leaking from.
You can do this by filling the magazine with gas and submerging it underwater.
The bubbles escaping the magazine will show where the leak is.

Leaking from the fill valve or exhaust valve:

If the magazine is leaking from either one of the valves, you should first try tightening it, though not too hard, as the valve might break. If the leak continues, then the valve most likely needs to be exchanged.

Leaking from gap in baseplate:

If it is leaking from the gap between the body of the magazine and the baseplate, then the hex screw at the bottom of the baseplate simply needs to be tightened. This screw should also not be tightened too hard, to avoid breaking it.

If this does not help, one of the seals may have dried out, in which case we recommend maintaining the magazine. You can find a video about this below:

If the gun is not cycling all the way, failing to reset the hammer or pick up BBs out of the magazine, then this is considered a cycling issue.

Causes for this can be too weak gas for a given temperature (e.g. green gas at 10 °C/50 °F), too low temperatures (< 5 °C/41 °F), or cooldown. Cooldown occurs if the magazine gets too cold from filling it often or shooting many shots from one magazine in quick succession.

Cycling issues will also occur when the magazine is running out of gas, as it cannot produce enough pressure with the remaining gas.

If this happens despite using the correct gas, there might be an issue with the hammer unit in the receiver or the blowback unit in the slide. Please check if there is any visible damage on the nozzle, piston head or hammer unit. If you can find something, please reach out to us with pictures of the damaged parts.

If there is no damage, but the parts appear dirty or dry, cleaning and lubricating the blowback assembly is recommended, you can refer to the “How often do I need to maintain the SSP28? How do I prevent leaks?” section above.
